I find it hard to believe you can run a trailer on the roads of any state without a license~ if you have a lisense plate assigned to a trailer it is indeed registered!
In Iowa these trailers do not have a title~ the registration is the title!
In CA license for all trailers.
CA does not allow towing double trailers for any personal vehicles. Tractor trailers excepted of course.
Every once in a while I will see some pickup truck towing a camper and a boat behind that. CHP nails them.
VT requires all trailers to be licensed and inspected. Inspection consists of lights, tires, brakes - if applicable, and rust. Oddly, I've never had any of my boat trailers inspected. It's only about 6 miles to the lake and those stickers on the tongue are hard to spot. Plus, I drive really really carefully when towing.
MI requires registration, but it is a one-time good deal. Once you register it the first time, you never have to again. Lifetime license plates. Kind of expensive up front, but so easy for the life of a trailer.
