We are about to go to closing and I'm looking over the payoff statement. There is a recording fee (31.00) and a fax fee (40.00). The statement gives a notice to settlement agents that the fax fee should not be charged to the mortgagor. Is that me? Of course it is lumped in with every other fee in the big scheme of things, so unless I protest, I'll end up paying it. Is it worth arguing over?
I've only seen the $40 fee for a rush fax.......where they are expected to drop everything and make sure the information is there within a quick turn-time. I agree, not worth the fight given the alternative is to postpone closing. Also, be prepared for a fed ex fee for the payoff. Also, very standard.
UGH. It's the feeling of being taken advantage of that's hard to stomach. Thanks for the advice. Everything else has gone seamlessly; I guess I should be grateful it's been so easy so far.
