Well, Super Sex is closed for renovations so, yes, Downtown Montreal may be temporarily dying
In all seriousness, I was in Montreal this past weekend for the Blue Jay games and I did note that (i) I did not have to wait in line for Schwartz's (even if that isn't quite downtown) and (ii) there was no issue getting a table at 3 Brewers at Ste-Catherine and I wanna say Crescent at around 11:15 on Friday night (it's still kinda early I know).
I don't know what the big deal about Schwartz is, I find the place highly overrated.
Oh, I happen to agree, but we were looking for some place quick before heading out to the baseball game and there was no line. The sandwich itself was dry and not quite as tender as smoked meat should be.

Next time you are in the area, I recommend the Portuguese chicken place next to Schwartz, called coco rico. Their chicken and roasted potatoes are really good. A much better option than Schwartz IMO.
I think Downtown Montreal future looks bright with more high rise housing and more cultural activities. In the summer, lots of festivities and brief warm period of summertime will continue to bring a lot of people downtown. The real focus should be during none summer months to increase vibrancy of Downtown Montreal. Improving economy, more developments and favorable city policy will improve this downtown. The key to having this downtown vibrant is always make sure no completing malls/lifestyle are built at least 0ver 25 miles from the downtown core and neighborhoods keeping the chill, not overtaking Downtown Montreal like what Plateau is trying. Keep neighborhoods low key and secondary. As far as Griffin area: go for it since it will enlarge and extend the downtown core, if done right with assortment of beautiful high rises/ mid rises with plaza and entertainment connecting the downtown to Griffin town.

Exactly what i tell everyone who lives here or is from out of town. The downtown area is going through phases, as does everything else, but in the long run i believe it will have a very bright future. Along with Griffintown soon being apart of downtown (to me) and the population being in at least 6 digits i think it'll all go well
Nowadays what are the top 5 hotels in Downtown Montreal?
Is the Ritz-Carlton still at or near the top?
