I really should have said that it made sense to me to take out the linguistic aspect in the particular context of MSP vs. Montreal...
So your question is mostly a socio-political one, then? You want to know if people in MSP are going to say things that will make you go "woupelaye! no one would ever say that in Montreal!" or if something you might say (that would be acceptable in Montreal) might be taken the wrong way in Minnesota? Right?

Omigod! So true!!
When I was living in CT (and missing Montreal so much), I went to visit a friend of mine (also a Montrealer) who was living in Brooklyn, specifically Carroll Gardens. We were walking down her cross-street and I asked her, "Is it just me? I swear, I feel like I'm walking down Sherbrooke St. [in Westmount] now." (That's where I used to live.) She said, "Holy crap, I thought I felt that way because I was missing Montreal and had gotten used to living in Manhattan." And to add to it all, there was a French school down the street.
Minneapolis to Montreal is a far greater greater culture shock. No contest. Montreal is very different from the United States, especially when leave the immediate downtown area.
I agree Montreal is different from US cities, but there are areas outside of the downtown area that have a similar feel to cities in North Eastern US. And much of the Island of Montreal Island is sprawling suburbs, not really different from other Canadian cities or even US cities.

It isn't just Toronto with a sprinkling of French, it's about as different from Minneapolis as many cities in Latin America or Europe.
Different yes, but not as different as a Latin American city, that is a bit of a stretch.
But you already know all of this and are just playing a game, I'm sure.
Lets remember we are having a conversation not an argument.
Ya i read a recent post where your kids were in the USA and didnt know some common English songs but look forward to singing French songs, thats the criteria you use to measure the depth of your culture?

It was just an E X A M P L E, jambo...
I don't get why you want to take the discussion there.
I mean, every coin has a flipside and the flipside to that argument is that Canada itself is identical to the States and may as well just merge with them anyway.
I mean, now that they have Obamacare down there, what's the point of paying 40% more for everything we buy?

And i'm saying except for the language Quebec is every bit as Americanized as Canada is. why am i taking the discussion in this direction? Our op wants to know what culture shock if any she is going to be subjected to by moving from Montreal to Minnesota,IMO she will experience virtually no culture shock.

And I am saying that is a fallacy for any number of obvious reasons, ranging from the way people vote to the books they read to what they drink to how they greet each other.
I know your argument is a popular rebuff generally used as a defence mechanism against political claims by Quebec for greater administrative latitude to assert its distinctiveness, but that still doesn't make it factual.
