My husband and I are considering moving to Montreal with kids from Ontario. We are curious because our eldest has already started Kindergarten here but his birthday is not until October 27, 2009 so under Montreal rules from what I understand he would actually need to wait a year before he would be eligible to start school in Montreal. As such he would be a year behind his peers here in Ontario should we come back which is a high possibility in a few years.
I have heard you can request a derogation and I was just wondering how hard is it really to get this, especially considering our circumstances? Also we are likely looking at private school so does that make it easier or harder to get as well? Any advise or real experiences would be appreciated!
My SIL just got one of these (her daughter born October 2008) and it was pricey but can be done. She had a psychologue (psychologist?) do the evaluation and sign it off, it was about $1000. It's easy to do apparently, if you have the money.
If you are in Montreal, it wasn't in that city. It was in Gatineau.
I contacted couple of them in Montreal and the cheapest I get is $800. I am willing to go to Gatineau if I get a better price. Can you please pass me the info?
Thanks,
