The area around Lac-St-Jean is nice but if you are going to go north of Quebec City with not too much time, I'd stick with the fjord.

People have mentioned the Saguenay Fjord but I could enjoy that without having to go the distance to Saguenay Lac St Jean area right?

Also how is the air and water temperature of the St Lawrence in the middle of July. I plan on doing Sea Kayaking, but am hesitant because of the temperature. I may get wet, or even flip over, and I might get sick. I am wondering should I just stick to biking and driving.
It varies from summer to summer and even throughout the summer but I'd expect the St Lawrence to be around 15-18 C. Smaller rivers that feed into the St Lawrence in the Quebec City area would likely be slightly warmer, although it depends on the river.

I am pretty sure kayaking is a fairly common summer activity in the area. Plus you wear a wetsuit, don't you?

Am I supposed to wear a wetsuit? Could I do with swimming trunks, and a surfing shirt? The sea kayaking that is.

Are there specific sites near or past Baie Comeau you can recommend? Thank you for all your help

Hi !

If you want to be really in the wood, come to our outfitter in Saguenay (7hour from MTL). it is on unorganized territory at the north of Ashuapmushuan reserve. We have a all include package for 4 or 5 days for hunters and fishermans.

Quebec has the most impressive mountains east of the rockies. Areas like the gaspe bay and the Chicchoc mountains are highly underrated imho.
