Ok I know it's hard to guess what's going to happen here next weather wise other than darkness at night with scattered light in the morning and cold/snow but I'd be interested in y'alls predictions for this winter.
We've noticed the geese are back a little earlier than normal and it's got cooler and rainier earlier this summer than in the last several years so I'm guessing we may be in for a "normal" winter this year? Maybe a '96 year????

Debee, yes it was rather awesome to witness that much snow, but did you have to drive in it? I did and there was a vehicle stuck about every 2 or 3 blocks and on hills and in parking lots. It wasn't much fun removing all of that snow from roofs and driveways either.

Jimj, Farmers Almanac is on newsstands now and they are predicting a colder winter. Here is a link to some of that info: Farmers’ Almanac Winter Predictions :: August, 25th 2008 - "Weather Chatter" with Peter Geiger

Hey, I found a cool toy within the Farmers' Almanac website; The Weather Time Machine. Check it out. I punched in the dates for the Christmas Blizzard of '96 and found that the highest snow depth was recorded on the 27th (in the Missoula area. Punch in your own zip)...very cool:

It does seem like winter could be coming early, we have been going up on blacktail ,getting our winter fire wood and we notice the trees and shrubs are all ready turning.it never hurts to be prepared for cold or heavey snow fall winter. 96' started in october! that aside,it was very pretty:0

Up here in Havre we could, technically, say we are experiancing our first cold snap of the season. A couple of days ago it was in the upper 90s, yesterday it didn't get above 58,,....this morning, I'm curious if there's any frost.

I think it'll be coming soon. Problem is that natural gas prices are up like crude oil and heating this winter will be a treat!! For NorthWestern Energy that is!!!

Grannymontanny,
my grandma lives in the woods above the lake too.
I know we all remember the winter of 96, does any remember the blizzard we had between Christmas and New YEars. It was a doozy, about 90 or 91

Are you talking about Going To The Sun Road? Weren't they going to close it early this year to perform some upgrades? I guess now that it has snow up there already, it's going to suck for the workers.
