You might give the search button, upper right hand corner, and come up with a lot of previous discussed info while you are waiting, or, give it a day to get answers. We have a couple people on here that have lived in or currently live in Butte.

Welcome to the Montana Forum.

I have never been to Butte, but I've always wanted to move there. It's a very historic and interesting place, from what I've read. At one time, it was Montana's largest city, and has more of an urban vibe than other Montana cities (from what I can tell).

How would you define "urban vibe"? Butte is definitely historic, but I really wouldn't consider it "urban" in a modern sense. The downtown is expansive but it is also very old, with (unfortunately) a lot of empty buildings because the population dropped so substantially after the mines closed. It doesn't have the modern buildings or hustle-and-bustle of your modern urban areas.

The advice I would give to anyone considering moving anywhere in Montana, but Butte especially, is to visit first. Butte is really its own place and hard to describe. It has a lot of character, which people either love or hate. I personally like it quite a bit, but it's really the type of place that each person has to experience for themselves before they decide if they like it well enough to live there. I would also recommend visiting in winter, because their winters tend to be harsher than the average of western Montana.
