Notably quieter for us. Far less noise/commotion in general that tapered off before midnight, although the usual suspects near us were consistent in carrying on with their nonsense until after 2am ... kind of surprised nobody called the sheriffs dept.

The irony of buying Chinese fireworks to celebrate 'freedom' during these times isn't lost on me. Not much to celebrate in the grand scheme of things, but we had a nice bbq and relative peace and quiet on the patio until dusk.

My neighbor just down the hill puts on a display to rival the official fireworks, and has become quite good at pacing it. Yeah, too bad we're not producing our own.

Couple years ago the city display (Laurel, so it's a Big Deal) got done, and just as the final display faded away, the world's largest lightning bolt split the sky. Nature's way of saying, "Hold my beer."

Merry Christmas to all my fellow porch rockers, and remember, this is why Santa fears the Irish!

Thanks

I don't get on the boards too much anymore, and missed your post earlier.

Sorry about that.

Happy New Year to all.

I feel like we're prepped for the Klondike Blast that will settle in tomorrow night through the weekend. 38 and partly sunny here today (!!) ... I pushed last night's snow off the aprons this morning and they're dry now. Made some passes up and down the driveway to pack down the surface so I can blade off of it IF we get any decent snow.

Based on the past few years, I expect this will be more of a wind/cold event and not bring the snow that is forecasted.

Not a great year to have a pass for Big Mtn ... so far.

-27 ambient here this morning ... -40 wind chill ... there are colder spots around the Flathead and I saw somebody's outdoor thermometer up near Polebridge at -50

The wood stoves are going good and it makes all the labor I put into firewood pay off. We'll blow through a fair bit here the next few days.

Hope you all are staying warm.

-24 at my house near the river, -33 at the airport up on the bench.

Beautiful sunny day if going outside wouldn't result in instant yard art.

Wait, is that where garden gnomes come from??
