Glad you are back Elkhunter! Place just ain't the same when you are gone
Haven't seen too much of 7 since she crossed the great divide

Been pretty quiet around here, I guess everybody is taking advantage of the summer weather with the exception of golf ball sized hail, (White Sulphur Springs), tornadoes touching down, (Hobson) high winds and serious lightning storms, (all over the place), and some snow, (Elkhorn Mountains among others) the weather has been pretty nice.

I know my time lately has been spent in hand to hand mortal combat with the fireweed that is trying to take over my garden.

Finally got everything in the ground after rototilling deep twice to try and kill off the $)#(_%# FIREWEED, but that didn't work, so I put down weed blocker which helps because now the stuff just comes up through the holes where I planted my vegetables, so I don't have to weed as much, but now I have to weed by hand to pick the weeds seperately from my plants instead of using one of those small Toro tillers. Can't win

Oh well, my tomatos are doing good, peppers are starting to bloom, peas, radishes, beans, corn, pumpkin, 3 kinds of squash, and melons are doing well, but my beets, turnips and parsnips don't seem too interested, but then again I may have mistaken them for fireweed

Good to have you home Elk

Remember with gardens, that chemicals work! You put on fertilizer, it really helps the veggies, but it also boosts the weeds. hahaha

Beautiful morning at 43 degrees, no wind, a bit of a whispy cloud. Supposed to have some thunderboomers today. (Reminds me I need to shift over the Winter Weather Alerts to Summer Weather Alerts)

I've gotta brag up our VA a bit. The Sheridan VA is the old hospital on Fort Mackenzie, which was established in 1898 to maintain peace with the Indians. It was a Cavalry Fort. Many of the original buildings are still there, still used, well maintained and are part of the Historical Society.

The old Officer Housing is there and is rented out to staff, or even to people out in town.

But, laying in bed I would look out the window. On the immediate left is the old parade grounds for the horse teams. Just beyond that is the old stable where the horses were housed. That stable is now the Maintenance Facility. But it is such a beautiful building. I'm sorry for the quality of the pictures, I took it with my cell phone. But it is such a beautiful building, I had to share it with you.

The care they provide is top notch. The nursing staff is outstanding. Have you ever been in the hospital and had the nurse wake you up at 5:30 so she could take your vitals, and then set a steaming cup of coffee on your tray? When you have an IV, you can not leave the floor. But my IV was capped off, so I went to the desk and asked if I could go down to the first floor and get a Diet Coke. The nurse said, "Your still pretty slow, give me the money and I'll go get it for you." I told her all I had was a $5. She said, "Not a problem, I'll find change some where."

For about a year, the food was terrible. No longer the case. Now, the food is so good that staff is paying to eat in the galley, wanting the same food the patients are getting. The food is terrific.

It's a beautiful facility and if you ever get down to Sheridan, take a few minutes and visit the facility. By the way. The old 2 lane bowling alley is open and operational.

Almost perfect weekend.

Friday, plant garden.
Saturday, nice gentle rain, most of the day, dropped .34 inches of rain on my new garden.
Sunday, well, not sure yet. So far it's just been grits and coffee. I'll have to report later today on how it went.

Monday, labs scheduled at 7:30, surgery scheduled at 8:30.

They told me I needed to bring a driver. Well, that ain't going to happend. I'm going to cheat. My daughter works right down the hallway, so she's going to step over and tell them she's my driver. Then when I'm done, she's going to escort me back over to her office, where I'll sit until she figures the happy gas has worn off. Should be interesting setting in the wating room of the Woman's Clinic. Think I'll sit there and about every 5 minutes holler over to the desk, "Hey, my pap smear was scheduled for 20 minutes ago, what's keeping the doctor." This will do two things. 1) it will keep me entertained. and 2) it will force my daughter into saying I'm ready to leave earlier. Should make for an interesting morning.

It snowed in Bozeman yesterday, big, fat flakes, didn't accumulate except higher up.
It is cold enough to feel like snow today, too, but has been raining pretty much all day.
I have several types of seeds sprouting in the garden that probably are not liking this cold.
