He had but $60 when killed, and of course knew nothing of the $20,000 which was reported buried somewhere.

ANOTHER OF THE DALTON GANG KILLED

Wichita, Kan. Jun 18.--- John Ward, a member of the Dalton gang, was shot and killed yesterday morning at Bear Creek, near Lunear, Ok., by Deputy United States Marshal Tom Covington. Ward made a hard fight, and when he died ten empty shells were found at his feet.

Thomas T. Dickson, twice sentenced to be hanged at Bloomfield, Mo., and who made his escape from jail, was yesterday returned, having been captured in Calhoun county, Alabama. The governor will fix a new date for his execution.

ALLEGED GHOULS

There was another arrest at Sedalia the other day growing out of the recent investigation by the grand jury of the charge that body-snatchers have been guilty of desecrating graves in the cemetery. The defendant is J.R. Hauptley, sexton of the cemetery, who was indicted jointly with Dr. S.A. Conkright. The prisoners gave bond.

ODESSA POLICE CHIEF SHOT

Odessa, Feb 4.-- The chief of police, M. Galovine, was shot while close to the police station today. He was wounded in the right shoulder. The wound is not dangerous.
Chief Galovine was in a carriage when an unknown man, who was dressed as a workman, attempted to assassinate him. The would-be murderer fled but was captured.

DISOBEYED ROBBER'S ORDER

William Bub, a shoe clerk, reported to the East St. Louis police that he had been stopped by a highwayman near the corner of Seventh street and Missouri avenue, East St. Louis, late Wednesday night.
The highwayman told him to throw up his hands. Instead, Bub says that he cried for help and dashed down the street to a saloon, where he told his story to several men and then reported it to the police. No trace of the highwayman was discovered.
