UNKNOWN MAN IS SLAIN

Kansas City, Mo., Feb 21.-- Assassins in an automobile today shot and killed an unidentified man as he was walking at Fourth and Campbell streets.
The automobile drove rapidly away from the scene. The victim, about 42 years old, pitched into the street. A slip of paper in the man's pocket bore the names and addresses of M.L. Wilson and L.R. Tennyson, both of Kansas City, Kansas.
Inquiry determined that the address given for Wilson is occupied by a furniture company. No one knew an M.L. Wilson there.
Harry Fitzbaugh and H. Morgan, a negro, said they witnessed the shooting. They informed police they believed two men were in the death car.

CARRIES STOLEN RING IN HER SHOE

Elisa Creed, 14 years old, of No. 1109 North Thirteenth street, was arrested last night on the charge of stealing a gold ring set with sapphires and diamonds and worth $35, from Mrs. Louis Grossnek of No. 515 Morgan street.
She is held at the Fourth District police station, but will be turned over to the probationary officer and sent to the juvenile court.
Elisa Creed was employed by Mrs. Grossnek to take care of her baby, and it is alleged that around July 25 the girl stole the ring.
After being arrested the child admitted the theft, and said for a long while she had kept it in her shoe. She said Mrs. Grossnek had offered her $5 to find the ring, but she did not allow herself to be caught in such a trap.
The girl admitted stealing other articles from Mrs. Grossnek, and said that she had learned to steal from her aunt, who sent her out every day on such errands.

BRING HIM TO JUSTICE

About two months ago a murder was committed near Marceline in this county. A man named Talbot deliberately shot an old man named Elisa Payne, killing him almost instantly. We understand that there has been no attempt made to arrest the murderer, although it has been admitted to have been a most heartless and cold-blooded affair. It was done in the presence of the murdered man's wife.

" SLIM PICKINS " FOR THE STICK-UP

Highwaymen and footpads will soon learn that it does not pay to operate in the north part of Cape Girardeau.
One night last week highwaymen stopped several girls going home from a party and told them to "come across " with their money, but 35 cents was their stake, so they refused it.
Several nights ago another highwayman tried his luck, singling out M.L. Killian, operator of a butcher shop in the Red Star addition, but this fellow met with greater disappointment than last week's robber, for Killian did not have a cent on him.
This robber stopped Killian on the Sloan's Creek bridge and when he got nothing in his search he disappeared.
