Contrary to popular belief, providing jobs for people is not the function of the Federal government. You will find nothing whatsoever about it in the Constitution.

If the jobs go away after the fall of a particular porkmaster, all that tells me is that they shouldn't have been here in the first place.

I guess some suffering may occur with change. So cp1969 will you suffer from any of this change or are you insulted from it?

The AP claims there is so much uncertainty, yet they can only get statements from two people in their piece. And to top it off, they can only attempt to back it up with speculation this early in the game.

I thought the news media was supposed to report news and not create it. And like I said earlier, even if he did win, he would lose the top spot of the Armed Services Committee because the Democrats lost the majority.

I think this is less about Whiteman and Leonard Wood and more about venting that a once undefeatable Democrat lost.

It’s no knock on the winners. But the swap has left some residents feeling a little uneasy in communities where road-pavers, retailers and real estate agents all indirectly have relied on the incumbents’ clout.
Bull.

BULL!! I am just referencing for the future what a having "kickem all out" attitude might bring a person. I have nothing to lose by IKE hitting the road. Mo would have been better off had we kept IKE and Blunt.imo

My post wasn't directed towards you, but towards the AP.

I don't understand your question. I don't think I'll suffer from any of this change but even if I did, at some point we have to do what is best for the country, not for ourselves. It's called 'sacrifce', a word which may as well be stricken from today's dictionary.

For instance, the military occasionally announces they intend to close a base. They have valid reasons for doing this. Then, the Congressional stooges get involved and are many times successful in preventing the base from being closed. Who's the loser in this? The US gov't and the US taxpayer. Who's the "winner"? A single congressional district.

There have been many instances where the military did not want any more of certain hardware, yet Congressional meddling forced it upon them. The F14 comes to mind, as does the A-10.

I am saying that if you will not suffer nor feel any consequences of this then you sure can have a "well it needed to be done" attitude. In other words you are not losing your job and thus possibly having to move your family; have your back against the wall and thinking "what are we going to do now?"

Look, I have the "well it needed to be done" attitude in any case. The B2's need to be located where the Air Force wants them to be located, not where Ike, you, or I want them.
