I know that 95% of Brooklyn Park is safe, and no, it's not very comparable to some of Chicago's suburbs (e.g. Harvey, Maywood, etc.), but there HAS TO BE some areas of BP that are probably not great choices to be near by, right? Every once in a while I hear about shootings or other violence in BP on the news and that also includes drug and gang activity -- where are those areas, and are they pretty bad or just bad for the Twin Cities? Just curious....

Interesting that you mention Harvey. I'd say that even the worst areas of N Mpls are nothing compared to Harvey. I took a drive around there a few years ago, doing some urban exploration. You need to see the remnants of Dixie Square Mall. It looks like Dresden after the war. Fascinating place, but make sure your car is in good repair

in Brooklyn Park, no, there are no areas you should "avoid" in my honest opinion. Brooklyn Center, maybe...just because home values are kinda ehhhh at best in most of BC.

Since my cousin lives in Crystal 5 miles from MPLS, in an older neighborhood, they've had their garage broken into at least 10 times in my lifetime.

I grew up 30 miles from MPLS and never locked our front door. Also, our cars sat in the driveway with the keys in them, doors unlocked.

I guess proximation to the big city means nothing? That's what you're saying right?

Of course I'm going to see somebody post
"There's more crime on the Red Lake indian reservation in Northern MN than in Edina, and Edina is adjacent to MPLS"

Could some of the crime have to do with the shopping centers too? Meaning, the incidents that tend to occur at shopping centers like thefts and occasional serious incidents could be pushing the stats up.

Why?

Because for 5 years I did it, and for 11 years my parents did, and there was never a problem!

That's why we moved from BP to the country. No worrying about some thug that's going to steal our 97' intreped.

I have a friend who lives in the "worst" part of Brooklyn Park around the Zane/Brooklyn Blvd intersection on a cul-de-sac abutting some pretty unsavory apartment complexes. They've been there for 5 years and the worst thing thats happened is his neighbors get loud and annoying at times.

Although I wouldn't even say its necessary, if you need peace of mind just get a big(ger) dog and a security system with prominently displayed signs and nothing will happen....since a break-in is about the worst thing you'll have to deal with in terms of feasible crime scenarios.

When I was about 9 years old, I was at the Dairy Queen on Zane, just north of the Brooklyn Blvd intersection with my grandma, mom, aunt and 2 cousins. Sitting outside we heard ''Pop, pop, pop, pop".. then 2 ladies running out of the apartments from across the streets. Then about 30 seconds later there were about 15 of BP's finest there....
