Just to clarify, I'm not sure, Golfgal, which lake you're referring to, but Lake Minnetonka, is not part of Minnetonka. So the expensive houses you're talking about (if indeed the lake you're referring to is Lake Minnetonka) are in Orono and Wayzata, Minnetrista and other cities that border or are part of the Lake Minnetonka area.

Of the 50 homes listed in Wayzata, the average list price is currently $722,598.

They're all essentially 99% the same. Great places.

Check out the Wayzata/Orono/Mound area anyhow. It's pretty quiet, the development is not crazy, won't get crazy in 4 years and the schools are really good. This is the kind of thing we looked for in a neighborhood with our 5th grader.

We've really been taking advantage of the Luce Line bike trail (wife bikes to Golden Valley in unbelievable safety) and it's been pretty easy to get downtown, or up to M'Grove or down to Eden Prairie, at least until they amputated 394 but that's a relatively temporary thing in the grand scheme.

There are smaller, less expensive houses around here and IMO it doesn't hurt things to be in a little neighborhood surrounded by houses that cost 750k-2mil. IIRC, there was one little house here that went for much less than $250, and another up the road that sat at $169 for over a year.

PM me if you have a question, I tend not to subscribe to threads here.

Definitely Minneapolis proper, there are many areas that match your description. If you've the finances to live in an actual neighborhood, don't sell this area short.

St. Paul is a wonderful city, particularly the area called Summit Hill, MacGroveland, etc. Lots of places there.
