They are basically the same. Maple Grove has a lifestyle center in lieu of an actual mall. Eden Prairie is more prestigious. If you work in Eden Prairie, I fail to understand why you would want that commute. Go with Eden Prairie.

Basically you are looking at a 5-10 minute commute, maybe, living in Eden Prairie vs an hour commute if you live in Maple Grove.

Eden Prairie is better in every aspect compared to the newly developed MG.

Eden Prairie is prettier in that it is hilly and near the Minnesota River. The highways there are really messed up, however. Talk about a spaghetti bowl! Maple Grove is a 20 minute commute...not even close to an hour. Both are great cities to raise a family and both are about the same distance to Minneapolis.

Price-wise they are pretty similar. Personally, I'd go w/ EP, simply because I'm not that familiar with MG. ...that and I hate communting! (The cost of fuel alone...ugh!) Also, the neighborhoods tend to have a small-town feel to them, they've really been working on improving traffic along 169, the high school (alough HUGE) is a good one, they've got some great dining, a good movie theatre, and if you tire of the shopping in the local shopping center, it's close to Southdale and The Mall.

Maple Grove is a 20 minute commute during a weekend cruise. For the working man/woman, it will be closer to 45-60 minutes during peak traffic hours.

My vote? Eden Prairie - you'll be that much closer to CostCo! There are other reasons too...

My favorite barbeque restaurant is Bakers Ribs - right off of Flying Cloud Rd. The school system is decent - they have a great football team.

This latest gaggle of clients I'm working with are, for the most part, looking at Eden Prairie and West Bloomington. There are some really cool neighborhoods hidden right in the middle of everything. For that price range, you'll do just fine. Eden Prairie has areas that hold value quite well and others that aren't so hot (or at least getting that way).

Robert
