You'd be best off starting a new thread, but in short the questions would be (a) where are you working, and (b) what kind of neighborhood do you like? Assuming your job is somewhere on a bus or LRT line, then yes, it's pretty easy to get around by public transportation alone. My favorite areas of the city are Uptown, Lyn-Lake, Whittier, and Marcy-Holmes; all very urban, all with good transportation, all walkable, safe (Whittier probably on the less safe side, but that's only in comparison to the others); those are also all filled with other people in their 20s. There are other nice areas, too, of course, depending on budget and what you're looking for.
