Hello!

My boyfriend and I have been talking about moving to the area maybe within a year or two. We both live outside of D.C. and can no longer take the lifestyle here. He went to U of M at Morris and has tons of friends scattered around the cities. I've visited twice now and just love the area, so I've decided to start doing some research on homes, jobs, etc...

My question is about the job market - IT and Technology jobs in particular. Are they hard to come by? We both are contractors for the Federal Gov't in IT consulting and are curious as to what is available in the area in terms of tech jobs. I figured this would be the best place to start - getting some real advice!

Thanks!

I guess it depends on your work experience and expectations in salary. The market isnt great but its better than a lot of areas of the country. The only people I hear out and out complain about the market stagnating are those in their mid 30s who enjoyed six figure salaries with nothing more than a paper MCSE and then whoops...reality made their life take a sharp turn and their pay is considerably less (but still respectable).

Target and General Mills both have huge IT departments, as does Best Buy. It really depends on what your specialties are.

There are lots of openings in IT if you have some experience and some luck. Are you a programmer or more towards networks and/or support?

There seems to be a huge number of Java and .NET programmer positions open in the Twin Cities area right now.
