Take a walk through Ridgedale Mall. I always see places hiring there. I worked at multiple places there myself when I was younger.

It's really tough for teenagers to get a job at normal "teenage" work places because of all the people out of work. If you have a choice to hire a 16 year old with no experience vs a 45 year old, the 45 year old is usually going to win.

My son did after school care for a family all last year and worked at Valleyfair over the summer.

UPS is hiring but I don't know if they hire 16 year olds or not. It's worth looking into anyway.

Most warehouse work requires you to be 18 because of the heavy equipment (even relatively safe stuff like pallet jacks) you use isn't allowed to be used by kids due to child labor laws. When I worked at Target stores doing warehouse work, you couldn't even put cardboard into the bailer if you were under 18.

Like Golfgal said, it's pretty tough for teenagers to get entry-level jobs right now. Have you tried following up with any of the places you applied to? That will show that you're more interested in the job and will set you apart from many teenage job seekers who can barely fill out the application. Things might start opening up more in the next month or two, as stores start hiring seasonal help.

I'm fairly certain UPS hires 18 and over.

A 16 year old's best bet is in restaurants and retail. In high school I worked at Cub Foods and a gas station. My 16 year old cousin just recently got a job at a gas station in the Twin Cities area. Those types of jobs are usually never in short supply.

It's tough to get a job. If you have some connections, use them. I worked at Target and a private golf club in Eden Prairie because I knew some other employees/patrons.

Just don't be picky on jobs, that was my mistake a few times.

Walk into every restaurant and coffee shop in your area and ask to wash dishes or mop floors. Everybody starts somewhere.

I know they hire kids under 18 because DS's friends worked there last summer and were not yet 18 but they had graduated from high school so it might be a deal where you have to be 18 or a high school grad.

It's just not that easy right now-it used to be but there are a lot of 45 year olds doing this right now too.
