Thanks to the gamblers. Probably a good investment for the tribe, too.

Yes, it likely will be a good investment, plus it's a good way to cement a strategic alliance with the MOA, much as they did with Cantebury (not that there will be gambling at the MOA, of course).

What will the square footage be with this addition to the moa including the radisson blu? Just wondering if it will surpass the west Edmonton mall.

Mall of America breaks ground on start of luxurious expansion - TwinCities.com

Not sure about the square footage but since they didn't say it would make it the biggest, I'm guessing not

this upcoming phase actually just represents a small portion ($325 Million/300,000 sq ft) of the eventual $2 Billion/10 year expansion that will eventually double the current size of 4.2 Million sq ft., West Edmonton Mall is currently at 5.3 Million sq ft and while have talked of expansion for a few years now have yet to move beyond the talking phase.

I believe even now the MOA at 42 million visitors per year is 10 million more than has been attributed to West Edmonton. Currently MOA has 520 stores with about 75 being added in this immediate expansion phase. WE has 800 stores. The largest mall by area in the world is in Dubai and is about 12 Million sq ft. The largest by number of stores is in Iran where one mall has more than 2,500 shops.

The long-range plan for MOA is actually pretty incredible if it all comes together and will fill in pretty much all of the North side of the property and retain the Ikea store in the design.

images are available of both the short (approved) plan and the long term plan but can't be directly linked here.

Not with this expansion. The full phase 2 expansion is supposed to double the mall's size, I believe.
