Well the reality of my living there essentially my entire life and now living here for over a year suggests something else. So I'd like to see those websites you mentioned. I mean reality can't be denied. I am living proof and the internet is a commons for all to check and verify. So find me a house comparable to mine in Saint Paul, in the city, (in good shape, updated, new siding, roof, 2 car garage, 1500 sq ft) which I paid 50k for, for less than 450k in Seattle, near the city center. It can't be done! That's just reality!! As I said before, there are dumps and short sales being unloaded now for 120k-250K usually with mold, bad foundations etc...many miles out of downtown in or near Renton, Burien, White Center, Tukwila. These are not in the city centre and are thus are not considered desirable neighborhoods and they are still triple to quadruple short sale/foreclosure prices here!! Some could be rehabbed but many are basically just bulldozable lots. You are not going to find any house in the Seattle core in any of the main city neighborhoods, Queen Anne, Magnolia, First Hill, Capitol Hill not even Ballard anymore for anywhere near even that "low" of a price I'm afraid. Ain't happening. I just got off the phone with my buddy out there and we were talking about just this. Man that cost of living is brutal in Seatown these days. The market has softened there in the last year or so though a little bit I hear, but not much, but by all means send me the links from the real estate websites you've mentioned, I'd love to check em out but I'm not holding my breath!
By the way I worked trying to get more affordable housing in the city of Seattle, an effort that was largely in vane. Now to prove my point I suggest anyone reading this go to Seattle based real estate websites and punch in 50k and see what you'll get! There's no houses for 50k I can assure you! Not now or ever since maybe after the "Boeing Bust." You can barely buy boat moorage space for 50k way outside of Seattle!

ok guys got an important question, exactly what make a city/state to have lower cost of living vs other cities/states? is it the state's law? population? I have always wondered about that. And I dont want to move into this city/state then few years later the cost of living go up too much.

for the states that got lower cost of living, like TX, FL, AZ....how many years have they been that way? but who knows if they will stay that way...
