My husband received a job offer that he is very excited about so I'm wondering about the commute time. He would be traveling from near the Cottage Grove/Woodbury border to the 169/394 area of Minnatonka and he would probably work pretty traditional hours, about 8 am- 5 pm with not much opportunity to work from home. He drove in once around that time and it took about 50 minutes but I'm sure there is a wide variation. I heard the commute the last couple days has been terrible. He has a competing offer so we're trying to figure out the best choice. Any experience would be appreciated. He doesn't mind driving at all but if it's often a stressful drive, that would factor in. Thanks!

God awful commute, sorry but you hit at least 3 bad traffic interchanges on that commute. I would say that 50 minutes is the best he can hope for. I was working on a project in Minnetonka, near that same area, HATED the drive and I'm closer then he would be. Take the other job.

The commute would be brutal. Especially in the winter, where even a dusting of snow seems to double or triple your commute time. In perfect weather with light traffic, it's about a 45-50 minute drive. Driving during rush hour, bad weather, or both, would really be awful.

I take it your husband took 494? I'm pretty patient and used to long commutes so the Woodbury-Minnetonka commute would be nothing to me, its usually flowing nice between Woodbury and the Airport.... once your passed the Mall/Airport area 494 gets pretty slow, but usually flows a little faster after 100.... 169 will be a mess though

Thanks for the information! He would take 494 or possibly 94. Tough choice, both are appealing jobs in different ways.

At least the road construction should go on sabbatical for the winter but then he would have to deal with the snow days where that drive would take 3 hours. During the summer he would probably hit 3 different road projects every year.

People should really live near where they work. Thinking it's "ok" to live in Woodbury and drive to Minntonka is half the reason why we spend billions of dollars on roads and sit in long lines to get where we are trying to get to.
