I'm looking for some recent information on what the rush hour commute is like from Maple Grove to Eden Prairie/Chanhassen. I did pull up a few posts but they were from 2007-2009 and I'm looking for recent info as we're planning on a move in the next few months and would prefer to live in Maple Grove but I noticed that most of the IT jobs are in the EP/Chan area. We used to live in EP and my husband drove to Plymouth for work each day and that was an ok commute but that was back in 2002 so we're not sure what the traffic is like these days going the opposite direction.

IIRC Maple Grove is the same place it's always been, at least since 2007. And traffic just gets bigger and crazier. Why would you want to do that to yourself?

It's really not that bad. North of 394 where 494 goes to 2 lanes it can slow down significantly (and from MG to EP in the AM once you get to 394 it opens up a bit). Depending on where you live/work you can limit your interstate time and use side streets or highways - also the time of day matters. 430-530 always just seems worse. If you are earlier than that or later it's never quite as bad.

That said at it's worst I would say no more than a 30-45 min commute either way - and that's at its worst, you are likely looking at the low end of that or better.

No decisions have been made yet - just looking for more info. There's a good chance that he will find a job in Plymouth so that won't be an issue but if not I was just looking for recent info on the commute times to Chan/EP where the other IT jobs are located so we can decide what city would be the best for us.

There's talk about an expansion on 494 that may make it a better commute somewhere down the line. The local news said they're considering a pay lane, I'm not sure if that's still under consideration or not. Nothing is certain and the construciton is not funded yet.

How is the commute from St. Paul to Shakopee during rush hour?

I guess it would depend on where in St. Paul you are. Traveling along 13 isn't the best but the stop lights keep traffic flowing fairly well. Speed limit along much of 13 is 50 mph so that in itself slows things down. If you were thinking about taking 494 at all, not so good there, traffic backs up right at the 494/5 interchange and doesn't move well until past 35W.
