Have noticed this morning that our water seemed to have turned a yellowish/light brown color coming from all fixtures in the house overnight. Am hoping others in Minneapolis are experiencing as well vs. potential of some larger issue specific to our house. We've had foul-smelling water in the past, but i dont ever recall this type of discoloration. Anyone?

We had it last week in the Nokomis/Powderhorn area of South Minneapolis. It happens to us every spring. The city says it is safe to drink but I avoid it until it runs clear and only use filtered water for cooking.

The city is probably flushing the fire hydrants in your area.

It is a common yearly thing each spring in many places.

The smaller towns that I have lived in usually post about it in the local newspaper ahead of time.

It sounds like the city "shocked" the water with chlorine. The iron gets oxidized and turns into rust. A reverse osmosis system ($200 at Menards) will make your water safe. The bonus is that it tastes better.

I would definitely NOT drink it, they did that to us here in Virginia . Called it a cleansing process....
I call it dirty water! Like my mom always used to say ..."don't eat the yellow snow!"

The same should apply for the water
