I will have to try Georgie Porgies...I have never been there, but have heard their name from time to time.

We used to have a place called Freddy's in Mequon that was located near the intersection of Mequon and Pt. Washington Roads. The place was great and it was always packed on a Friday night. Old man Freddy was kind of crazy and the place went out of business unfortunately. But they could almost give Kopps a run for their money.

Good call on Freddy's. I remember Freddy's well, and that was a good place - very similar to Kopps.

I know Robert's Frozen Custard is another popular chain (one in Germantown, one in the old Kopps on 60th and Appleton) which is comparable to Freddy's too and pretty good...I should have put Robert's on the list!

Well, EnjoyEP, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I like Culver's vanilla, and I don't think it's plain. I will grant you that some Culver's might serve up subpar vanilla, but I frequent the one in Shorewood, and I always find their vanilla to be robust and flavorful.

To tell you the truth, I am enjoying this debate. Thanks for engaging in such thoughtful and rational discussion about such an emotionally-charged topic. Your opinions are based on reasoned, thoughtful analysis, and, while I may disagree with some of them, I respect them.

Rather than choose one "best custard" overall (which could go on forever) perhaps we should discuss the relative strengths of each burger chain based on certain categories:

Here are my picks:

Most Innovative Flavors o' the Day:
Kopp's

Best Overall Atmosphere, Summer:
Leon's

Best Overall Atmoshphere, non-Summer:
Kopp's, Port Road

Best Sundaes:
Culver's (sorry)

Best Burgers:
Culver's (again, I have to go with my gut on this one)

Best Fries:
Kopp's (skins still on em!)

Best non-burger sandwiches:
Culver's

Best Service:
Any Kopp's location

Any others....?

Not a fan of Roberts. I just don't consider it to really be a contender.

I wanted to like Leon's because of the incredible atmosphere, but to me it its flavor is just dull. A big nod to Kopps.

Oh and those Kopps burgers!

I'm in strong agreement with you, EP.

However, in regards to atmosphere, back in high school we would sometimes head down to Highway 100 on the weekends (yes, sometimes we had to make the trek from Mequon to Greendale to find entertainment in those days) and would go to Omega's. It was quite the scene many-a-weekend with the neon lighting on the building and all of the "pimped out" cars that some of the kids would show off in the parking lot.

I was right with ya s-t-w...in high school, Omega and Oscars (Hwy 100 and Lincoln) were both big hangouts on Hwy. 100. Omega's food overall is better, however, Oscars is good too.
