A pretty fair number actually do. Some didn't realize a military academy meant military. Some get fed up with the BS level (some of them switch to ROTC because they like the military, but not the academy BS). Son is at the USMA now and tells me there are days where he want to quit. It's not the marching, training, heavy activity, or academics that get to him. It's the amount of BS. I have to keep telling him that A) everywhere will have some level of BS; and B) two more years will go by really quick.

Air force Academy drop out (only went 2 years). Never enlisted, never deployed, never served

Gets a free lunch for Veteran Day and now he thinks he is a Veteran

Is he a Veteran?
One time, a person asked for a veteran's discount at my mom's retail shop in a shopping mall. I gave him the discount without questioning him. He attended a military academy and had a student ID of some sort. (Don't remember exactly what)

I did a google search when I came home, and it looks like

"students who attended a US military academy or a military academy preparatory school (USMAPS or NAPS, but not high school academies) are considered veterans, so long as they were released under a condition other than dishonorable."

So it looks like as long as he was released under a condition other than dishonorable, he is a veteran.

Its not the free lunch that gets me. It's now he is telling everyone he is a Veteran. And not being truthful to real Vets. He skirts the topic when people ask about his service.

If what I hear about the Air Force is true, the closest they come to SOS might be biscuits and sausage gravy.

Get over it. Half those walking around with hats or shirts showing some type of implied military service never served a day in their life. Many of those who show up for free veteran stuff also have never served. If the place offering the veteran service doesn't care to check, why should we care or even be bothered by it? Since even veterans can't agree on what is a veteran, I would think some Service Academy drop-out isn't that much of a thing in the big picture of veterans concerns.
