Just back from Grand Haven. It was great. We stayed across the bridge in spring lake. Nice bike trail that led to grand haven. Great ice cream shops in spring lake. Enjoyed grand haven. beaches were nice. Headed south on way home to hit van buren dunes. kids enjoyed. Our fave beach was North Beach in Grand Haven. It was atually just into Ferrysburg. Had great wooden stairs with lookouts for amazing views. Awesome waves for bodysurfing. We did some coast guard week activities like the carnival which was a blast and we saw a ski team perform and toured the coast guard ships. Enjoyed pronto pups. crowds weren't bad until Friday so we stayed in Spring Lake. Left before the parade and headed to South Haven beaches/dunes on way out.

We also visited Holland for a day. We met them at the beach. It was just like Grand Haven beaches but the downtown is so far away. We didn't drive around but it didn't seem 'charming' to me. Perhaps I'll have to visit another time.

I would go back but still searching for the perfect beach town. Might try South Haven next. We spent the first and last day exploring there a bit.

Thanks.

Trish

Me too... did Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, South Haven, and St. Joseph this weekend... all were phenomenal. Just having one of those beaches would be a gem, but having a dozen fantastic beachtowns is just awe inducing.

I think a lot of people would be surprised if they knew about them.

We are planning a trip in early August. I believe our first stop is South Haven. Heard so many nice things about it. Never been to MI. myself. Hubby has in the mid 1970's, but on the other side of the state.
I am happy just walking the beach or boardwalks. I hope we are able to get as far North as Empire & Leland. I LOVE to collect rocks. I can't get in the water, I have a prosthetic leg with a computerized knee, and it can't get wet...at all. If the rocks are in the water, hubby will have to go in.
Anyway...these 2 towns up North I've been told have beautiful rocks, I sure hope so.

I also was told about Petoskey having cool rocks. Would LOVE to get up there, but I really doubt if we'll be able to. I can always hope.

We love lighthouses, so were looking forward to that.
Taking photos of sunsets & sunrises on the water is always a plus.
I can't walk up any sand dunes due to my limited walking, so where is a great place to get good photos of the water & sunsets ???

Thanks for the help

How is the weather this time of year ? We'll do anything to get away from the heat & humidity we are use to.
