I'm trying to determine if my driver's license is suitable ID for travel within the US. I have read about the REAL ID requirements necessary to present your license for air travel, but I'm not sure if my Michigan license is compliant. Suppose I could call the Sec. of State...Thought I would try asking here first. Has anyone had any trouble traveling by air within the US with just their MI license as id? My license is up for renewal in 2010, but I'm not sure if it is currently compliant.

A Michigan driving license is fine. Actually you don't need any ID at all but you will most likely get searched.

"Passengers who do not or cannot present an acceptable ID will have to provide information to the Transportation Security Officer performing Travel Document Checking duties in order to verify their identity. Passengers who are cleared through this process may be subject to additional screening. Passengers whose identity cannot be verified by TSA may not be allowed to go through the checkpoint or onto an airplane."

Happy Travels.

No. IN fact I have flown a couple of times without my license with only a minor bit of hassle.
