I could see getting turkey with a bow. I've gotten pretty close and they seem pretty stupid to me. LOL But I don't see you getting a duck or a pheasant in a traditional way with bow.....any bow. Then again a buddy and me did shot some squirrels when we were deer hunting. But then again when they are 15ft away chirping at you up in a tree they are easy shots. LOL

My brother made bows and arrows and hunted small game with them. His favorite was a Penobscot Indian style bow, with a second, shorter bow attached to the back which allowed the draw weight to be adjusted.
My dad hunted deer with a 75# Fred Bear wooden bow. No sight, no frills, plain old straight bow. He helped start the local archery club back in the day.

I love to hunt grouse (with shotgun) in Michigan but 99% of the fun is the "chase" and not the "catch". There's so little meat on the birds that it's hardly worth cleaning though I will not waste it. Carrying a pistol or handmade weapon would certainly diminish my chances but again, I'd rather they be there to flush next year anyway. Haven't had the opportunity and don't know if I will yet this season but seeing the leaves change really stirs my heart to get up north and pound the woods. There's nothing finer than walking in northern michigan woods in the fall, especially my usual grouse locales.
