My ex has custody of the kids. They are moving to waterford from Wayne. I know Wayne isnt all that great, but being waterford is next to pontiac I am worried. How is Waterford like? I know they would be going to Waterford schools and I would have to find out where exactly they will live to hopefully get more info about it. I know they will be across from the water.

I spent middle school and high school in Waterford in the late 80's and early 90's. Obviously that was a long time ago. But a lot of the people I went to high school with seem to still be in the area, with kids going to Waterford schools. Clarkston schools always had a better reputation, but Waterford probably wasn't that far off. It was a nice place, lots of lakes, so lots of water sports. We all skied at Pine Knob, which was just a few minutes away. Big into sports...

I don't live in Waterford but we often visit stores in the area as well as the Waterford movie theater. Even though it borders Pontiac I don't think you have anything to worry about. Waterford for some reason remains a pretty safe area. I'd say even most of Pontiac is better than I remember it as a teen. I remember taking my then girlfriend to the then Pontiac Mall and getting harassed by groups of low lifes. As an adult I often did some work in that same mall and as it is like a ghost town today it was still safer prior to it's dying days. Not sure how much time that mall has.
Anyway I agree with the other poster about the lakes etc. A buddy of mine had a house in Waterford and he also grew up there. Him and his wife seemed to like the area and I never heard any complaints of concerns about their safety.

Lived there for for about 6 or 7 years. Still owns a home in the north west of Waterford. Very nice area, lots of lakes, it was nice living there. South west of Waterford also very nice. Waterford for the most part is a very safe place to live.

I lived in Waterford pretty recently. It's really fine. In fact, most of Pontiac is also fine!

waterford is not bad....its not new, pretty and shiny like other towns in oakland county, but its not ghetto. and yeah, there's the lakes......other than the lakes though, its not too exciting. i lived there years ago, never had any problems. i'm about 20 min from waterford currently.

Yeah, I lived there for 4 years, Pontiac for 3.

If they are near the water, they are more than fine. Only area that really gets scatchy is the border of Pontiac, which would be Telegraph Road. If your on the Waterford side of Telegraph (Telegraph is the border) you are fine I'd say.

By the water? Very nice areas.

Thanks guys. Yep by the water. Now here is my thing if they are by the water how far would you say they are from pontiac? See my brother use to live in Pontiac and when he lived there that wasnt but 10 years ago I thought it was awful. They will be in high school so I wonder if they walk anywhere in Waterford how far they could walk before turning into pontiac. I Know I may sound overprotective, just how Pontiac was back then really frightened me.

It'll be far enough, and it could even be one of the lakes on the opposite end of Waterford which is the furthest from Pontiac, and closer to White Lake and Clarkston.

There are a BUNCH of lakes in the area, so you'd really need to narrow it down a bit more. Oakland County has TONS of lakes...
