I just saved a bundle on my car insurance (just kidding), actually, I got some deals on school shopping at Meijer's. I usually wait until the last minute but did much better this year.

I was in Saugatuck last week and B&B owners I talked to have seen 100% occupancies on weekends for the first time in awhile...as well as increased midweek bookings...50%-75% filled midweek. There seems to be an air of encouragement for them for the first time in awhile. A good sign.

My grocery store has just put "BEST OF MICHIGAN" labels on all the products they sell that are made in Michigan. And I'd just like to point out that a lot of those brands offer great savings, due in part I'm sure to the fact that they didn't need to be flown in from Patagonia.

Just read in the local paper (Ludington Daily News) that the State Park has been very full this Summer. With just about every hot sunny day filling the lots with "day trippers" (348 parking spots) and up to 500 more parked outside the gates along M-116 enjoying the area. Last report was that on Wed, the lots were full and 216 cars were parked along the road. Pretty good for mid-week.

I have a few:

1) Meijer and Marshall's have announced they are building a big shopping complex at 8 Mile & Woodward, bringing LOTS of jobs AND much-needed affordable groceries and merchandise to the city of Detroit.

2) Millions of people, including out-of-staters, visiting Metro Detroit this weekend for the Woodward Dream Cruise, bringing millions of dollars into our stores, restaurants, and bars.

3) There will be a remake of the film Red Dawn with scenes all over the metro area including Royal Oak, Mt Clemens, and Rochester Hills (casting call for extras today in Troy).

4) Discovery Channel is filming a new series called "Motor City Motors" at the Detroit Bros Custom Cycles shop on Woodward in Ferndale. The producers made the official announcement at the Dream Cruise kickoff last night and were filming all the festivities.

5) The UN1TY Movie Production Complex will break ground in Allen Park on Aug 27th, putting the old Visteon buildings to good use and bringing thousands of jobs to the area.

It's a great day in Michigan!!!

An article from the AP stated that the 2007 Cruise brought in 56 Million dollars to the area. (More than the Super Bowl brought to Detroit)
