Has anyone had a wedding on Lake Michigan/Lake Erie or any of the numerous lakes in Michigan I was hoping to rent a large private residence with lakefront property that could sleep 20 people. I was hoping to have the ceremony and reception on site. Any properties that I've found that are both large enough and have beautiful scenery will not accept my rental offer if I plan to host a wedding (although it will be a rather small and intimate group). Has anyone done this? Have any suggestions?

Thanks!! Mark

I don't know if they will allow weddings or not, but check out the two facilities here, and give them a call. They are not cheap, but have wonderful facilities from what I understand. Anton and Company, Traverse City, MI

I also just did a search of B & B's in the state that will host weddings and are waterfront. Here are the results: http://laketolake.com/display-amenity-list.php (broken link)

Try looking for hotels, that might be a better bet. There is the Holiday Inn in Traverse City and several hotels along the lake in Mackinaw City. This is also a couple along Lake Huron between Tawas and Oscoda. There is also a nice hotel (Best Western) I think on the shores of Silver Lake by Hart. You could also look at booking parks in Whitehall, Muskegon or North Muskegon.

Not the Holiday Inn in TC! No, no, no! Hopefully they will do a tear down of that property one of these days.

My son and daughter in law got married at Sturgeon Bay (NW lower) a couple of years ago, use of the beach is free and its a beautiful area. Lots of hotels in Petoskey or Mackinaw City nearby where you can have a reception afterwards.

The problem with using the public beaches is that you can't tell other people they can't be there, so it would be very possible that they might find the beach full of other vacationers. On a private beach, you can't keep someone from walking along the shoreline, but you can keep them from stopping and plopping down a blanket.

White Pine Village in Ludington. It is located on a high bluff overlooking Lake Michigan and has a nice little chapel you can rent as well as having pavilions and a "town Hall" that can also be used for gatherings after a wedding. Usually they will schedule a wedding when they are closed and that way the party isn't bothered by others. Thanks for all the suggestions!! I've looked at the options everyone has posted. I was most interested in a private residence because we aren't looking for a chapel wedding. The public beaches route is an option I considered but I didn't want to plan something and then have an unexpected surprise. Budget is another consideration For those reasons, I was hoping to be able to rent someone's beachfront property for a weekend and organize the rest ourselves since we are only considering having about 50 guests. Anyone have a great beach house and need a few extra bucks????
