just curious- are you originally from MI, or CA? Reason I ask, is because I moved here from Cali 2 years ago, and it was quite the shocker, so different from Cali-lol.

My husband is from CA, I've lived here about 10 years but I grew up in Washington state. I miss snow and rain and the change of seasons. Right now, on Dec 5th, it is 50 degrees outside, it will probably warm up to about 65 by midday.
His job has had him going to MI (various places) every couple of weeks all year and he's fallen in love with the state. So when his company asked him to move east of the Mississippi River, he opted for MI.
I expect some culture/weather shock, especially for my kids who have never seen more than 2 inches of snow at a time.

I think with any move there is adjustment. Do you know anyone in MI? Are you planning on finding a place first or just moving? I know when I moved to Ca though it was just me I stayed in a hotel which got very expensive while I looked. I am sorry when did you say this move is happening? I would look at craigslist for apartment/home rentals. A home rental you may even be able to get a 6 month lease or actually an apt too.Like I said I know very little of Fenton. Good luck

Brighton, MI expatriot checkin' in...

Livingston County has great schools, and a fairly easy commute to just about anywhere. Brighton is at the intersection of US 23 & I-96; count on a 45 minute drive to Detroit Metro Airport during non rush hour times and doing the speed limit.

A lot of cities have loops; Motown has "spokes", kinda like a wheel. Reside near one of the spokes and your driving isn't much of an issue.

Unless of course you're between Novi & Southfield on a weekday between 6-8 am & 4-6 pm.

I like Fenton cuz it is rural. Homes are far apart, nice lakes, and I hear that Bishop airport is an option in Flint...check it out.

I'm biased, but Hartland sounds like a perfect place for you. It is rural, it has an amazing advantage of being centrally located to Lansing and Detroit, is much more rural than Brighton without turning into the boonies like Fenton.

Hartland's currently under a lot of construction, due to complete in September. The new stores will be very handy, and unlike Brighton, if you need to get out of the shopping district, you'll be able to get out of it.

My drive to Detroit Metro airport is about 45-50 minutes depending on traffic.

The schools are the best in the county, and they don't have this habit of mispending hundreds of thousands of dollars like other area school districts have a tendency to do.

Again, I'm biased, but I think it merits a look. You'll be impressed.

Message me if you have any questions about Hartland, area real estate prices, anything you need
