I tried looking up info on the Michigan state fair.. It appears it's only one weekend long and doesnt have a different cheesy concert every night like Brooks and Dunn and Foreigner.

I'm a little disappointed. Wanted to see Tesla and the Charlie Daniel's band, dammit.

No questions. Just statements.

Michigan doesn’t have a true state fair. It used to be held at the old state fairgrounds in Detroit. But it was disbanded many years ago. The “state fair” in Novi is attempting to replace it but it’s nothing like the old one or state fairs in other states.

So there’s a serious answer to your non-serious post!

I used to live in the yellow brick building at State Fair and Woodward in the mid-late 80's. What a gorgeous building it was. Cage elevator, marble foyer, adorable apartments.
We used to go up on the roof and watch the bands at the outdoor bandstand. It was fun to sit on the brick stoop outside the main entrance and people watch. I moved in 89 from there. I did see Nirvana the November before Kurt Cobain died. People were throwing firecrackers on stage. Kurt got so mad, they almost walked off. I was so angry someone would be so childish. We miss the State Fair. We definitely need another one like before.

I think the Ionia Free Fair is the largest fair in the State now and has a lot of the cheesy concerts (Journey tribute band this year), smash-up derbies and monster truck shows that you're thinking about (last time I was there maybe 15 years ago).

What about the U.P State Fair? That still occurs every summer.

In Escanaba.

They have terrible concerts for all your fair desires. If I remember correctly they're free with the price of fair admission but it's first come first serve?

Aren't state fairs supposed to have contests for everything from "sturdiest cow" to "most intricately woven quilt"?
