You read into the post and decided to trash on me because i do not conform to your mindset of Michigan.

Please dont insult me with your temper tantrums if someone disagrees with your way of thinking.

You should embrace the different opinions of others vs. thinking everyone should be clones.

That is a pet peeve of mine.
Besides it was funny Michissippi .... where is your sense of humor..
For god sakes we all know what you people say about Illinois for that matter.!!!!!

Gee

I really apologize Sunny,

I really do. It was just a cathartic rant. Its just that I have experience enough parochial narrowmindedness (I know it is not everyone by any means) in much of Chicagos Southland that I feel that anyone from the communities between I-55 and I-57 making fun of another state as being country of "southern-like" would almost be like the pot calling the kettle black.

But again, I do apologize. There is no excuse for my attach on you.

And check out the cultural amenities of Metro Detroit-Ann Arbor. You may not have downtown Chicago there, but there really are some pretty cool things that might suprise you, that is of course if you haven't been there already.

I drive around with Bill Evans playing in my car.
When I first bought a house in north Redford twp I saw several of my neighbors displaying confederate. Flag. This was in 2000.
one hung one from his front prvh and several had stickers on the back window of their pick up truck.

I've seen Confederate Flags in south Warren. Of course in you're a more affluent suburbanite, you're less likely to see them. But there's certainly many pockets of Southerners or those with southern thinking in Michigan.

It sounds like it might be sort of a cult expression that is used in some circles in the southeast part of the state. Apparently it IS real, but I don't think it is widely used.

Probably by a bunch of weirdos who don't leave their computers... or people from Ohio.

No Problem ... I accept the apology.
However I am not one of the narrow minded individuals that your thinking about.

Funny thing is that i have defended Detroit in forums

Certainly realize the importance the city of Detroit MI has offered the world.

Out of Detroit was ideas and thoughts that revolutionized the way we mass produce virtually every single item that is used today.

I would love to have an envision of the Midwest , one that is not competing with each other rather working with each others strengths.

We truly need this mindset to achieve superiority in the global economy.

I do not believe there is a turf war between the Detroit Metro and the Chicago Metro.

Pretty much the two Metro's live and work co existing with respect for each other.

All kidding and ribbing aside Michigan is a beautiful state.
If one argues this fact than they need to exploree the state.

I will personally never forget the beauty of crossing what they call THE BIG MAC , Mackinaw Bridge for the first time. Literally nothing short of breath taking and totally awe struck looking out at the lake and the shores.

Must admit I had a death grip on the steering wheel and never have felt my hands sweat before that event!

The state clearly has its importance to the U.S.A
lending its innovation to others
and sharing its natuaral wonders to many who visit its borders.

No , I do not dislike Michigan in the least and will continue to go there on my quick get aways because I enjoy along with my family.

Yeah, Michigan has one of the largest militia groups in the country, many of whom proudly fly the Confederate flag. Racism is huge in the more rural areas, thanks to Michigan's history as a KKK hotbed in the early 20th century, there's still a strong Southern undercurrent. So many pickups with Confederate flags around rural Michigan.

One of my pet peeves. There's a guy with a giant one in a pickup that shows up near my work semi-frequently, and one of these days I'm tempted to just go break it off.

In general, Country does not equal Southern, and Southern does not equal Country. Some of that might be changing due to the shared rural culture movement, but by in large, they're two different things.

Michigan definitely has a lot of country elements. It doesn't have a lot of Southern ones.

Thank you.

Michigan and Mississippi are two different planets.

Those that are calling it "Michissippi" are doing so as a subtle way of saying that most of Michigan is "conservative, gun-toting, red state, backwards thinking."

Well, that's cute. Ha. We get it. But for practical purposes, the two places might as well be in different galaxies.

What part of the State are you in? I see a confederate flag about twice a year in my travels around the State, and I live in a rural area and travel mostly rural areas. As for the KKK presence at the turn of the LAST century...Yeah, heaven knows that what happened almost a 100 years ago still defines the entire State .

I tend to think of flags as symbols that only have the meanings that you give them.

To Person A, a Confederate flag might be a symbol of hated, bigotry or intolerance.

To Person B, a Confederate flag might be a symbol of "country" pride, being a rebel or masculinty - Kid Rock style.

It would be narrow minded of Person A to think less of Person B solely for having a Confederate flag, just like it would be presumptious of Person B to think ill of Person A for not having one.

To take this example to an extreme - there are sects of religions that do not believe in having Christmas trees - because it was an ancient pagan tradition that people worshipped. Similarily Halloween was a pagan/demonic ritual of blood sacrifices. Does that mean people today shouldn't have Christmas trees or go Trick or Treating? People may fly flags now for completely different reasons than what the original intent was 150 years ago... One side will never convince the other side their view is right... On any of these topics...
