Strangely I have seldom checked out those pix. I have garnered quite a few of my own - on 35mm. Used to tour a lot along the Lake Michigan coast.

Not sure what it is about the Flint area that has you considering moving there....BUT keep in mind that every bigger city is surrounded by a lot of smaller cities or cities that are close to them. Regarding Flint you have some nicer smaller cites like Fenton, Davison,Grand Blanc and there are some even smaller if you don't mind a commute. I'm not sure why the magic population number is 75,000 but there are some really nice smaller cities that are close to larger cities. I would have to 2nd 2nd 2nd 2nd or however many times it's been said about Flint. I'd say there is probably more bad than good about the city.

Yes. I have changed my mind about flint. After reviewing the posts and doing a little more digging myself, it looks like a bad spot for my 2 daughters to grow up. I would like a short commute, so i am probably going to go for one of the outskirt city's, next to a big one. I really like the way Kalamazoo is situated. Grand Rapids looks decent too. So something around one of them will probably be a winner. I would like the UP, but there doesnt seem to be large enough city's to support my family. Has anyone driven from Texas up to MI befor? I see its about a 25hr drive. Should i wait for spring to do it?

I have a friend who moved from the Lansing area down to Katy, TX. She and her boyfriend drive back to see family 2 or 3 times per year. It's very doable to make the drive. Each one drives 12 hours, so they can make it straight through. And even in winter, you're only likely to get bad weather once you get to Indy (if you choose to come up that way), or in the mountains if you go a different way.
