Ah November....leaves are off the trees, winds pick up, flurries arrive, and along the West shore of Lake Michigan the low, grim and gray cloud cover has arrived.
I'm fine with snow...with cold weather...winter can be beautiful on a number of levels. But the gloom..the gray, almost semi-darkness today, it drives me away.
Looking forward to some New Mexico sunshine. Every day. Every...day.

What are you talking about? First of all, as of today it's December. Second, the west shore of Lake Michigan is in Wisconsin. Third, if you meant the west shore of Michigan (the state, not the lake), I live near Muskegon, and this has been the sunniest November I can remember.

The first real snow always gives me a feeling of life returning to normal, especially when it arrives on Dec. 1. Lots of things are f'd up these days, but some things are exactly as they should be. Be thankful for that, and be at peace.

Cloudy winter days are perfect for curling up with a cup of coffee and appreciating your warm house. And when we have cloudy winters, we can truly, truly appreciate the beauty of spring, summer, and fall in Michigan!

When we lived in AZ, the constant, relentlessly sunny days were overpowering, and people were wishing for a cloudy day just to escape those ever present rays. One man's junk is another man's treasure, I guess.

Yup...winter in Michigan can be boring if you hate winter. For those of us who love winter...let the fun begin!!!! Remember...life is too short to complain about things you cannot control...you have to learn to look for the good in everything that comes your way. As much as I love the cold and snow...it does get me down sometimes, but I could never live where there is only one or two seasons....but thats just me.

We drive to Indiana if we need some sunshine during the winter. Once out of the cloud shadow of Lake Michigan, the climate has a lot more sunshine. I like to drive on State Road 39 south out of La Porte, put the cruise control on and enjoy the sun streaming in the windows. There is not a lot on that route other than cornfields, but it is a pleasant drive.

Thats the best news I've heard all year. Seriously though, I hate the way it always seems dark in michigan in the winter. At least I know when I move to missouri at the end of the month they get a little more sunshine!

Gloom??? Oh my goodness- there are Christmas lights everywhere, decorations all over our house, delicious smells from the kitchen and fireplace all day long, sledding down our back hill now that the snow has arrived, our dogs chasing each other excitedly through the drifts.... Make the most of what every season has to offer and there won't be a minute of gloom in your life!

When I lived in MI, around this time of year I'd say:

BRING ON THE SNOW!!!!!!!!!

Heck, if it's gonna be cold, then let the dumping begin.

Kinda get sick of it when it happens in April though......
