Hey everyone,

I was hoping to get some advice on good places to buy a used car when we move to Maui in 2012. We won't be bringing one with us from the mainland so it will be important for us to get something soon after arriving (we'll rent one until then).

Also, does anyone know if we will need to obtain Hawaii driver's licenses first? I am not sure how this works.

Any other considerations we should be aware of when it comes to getting a used car in Maui?

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have!

Okay, any ideas on where to buy a vehicle used or new? I'd prefer not to ship something over. . .

rent a car or rent a wreck for a month or so. find one on craig's list or the newspaper. we have several used car lots and i would think one is as "good" as the next. it really depends on the used car you get and how it runs, which is the direct reflection on if you think a place is good or not. good luck

Too many factors at play to give a general answer. Safest is from a sales car lot, but in any case if the car is of interest after the first look & test drive, you need to pay to have a mechanic evaluate it. The laws are as-is for used cars, no matter what someone says to you verbally, you are stuck with the deal once you pay.

If there are 2 of you, buy one car and one scooter. Lisa ;-)
