I don't get that feeling as much in Worcester as I do in other cities, but I know that feeling.

Fair enough. Especially combined with the above.

Lawrence is pretty depressing too... From the buildings you can see its prosperous past, but contemporary Lawrence resembles a third world country.

Lots of run down triple deckers w/satellite dishes and unkempt properties. Also, the feeling that you might get robbed or something when you step out of your car in some areas. Even one of the main plazas there that has a Michaels, Homegoods and Lowes is sketchy. I went there once while I had a few minutes to spare before an appointment and there was a woman partially lifting her top up and dancing in front of the Michaels store. Plenty of folks strung out on drugs in public doing crazy behavior.

That's the feeling I got from Springfield, more so than anywhere else in New England.

Parts of Worcester are indeed rough and tumble. However, a large swath of the city is actually very nice and well-kept. Most areas on the western side of downtown could easily be mistaken for parts of metro Boston (think Belmont, Milton, Newton). I used to have a satellite office in Worcester and spent 1-2 days a week out there in the mid-2010s. It surprised me at the time how many nice neighborhoods there actually were, when I used to take a drive at lunchtime or to visit clients. I had expected only a few nice streets in a historical downtown area.

Flipper bought this SFH in Springfield last year for just 145k last year and went to work doing their thing. They put it back on the market at 309k in May. They claim they got a buyer but "financing fell through". Haven't really cut the price yet but I wonder how much they are losing on not unloading it.

Is doing a flip in Springfield really a good idea?

Looks like it has a lot of competition. Just did a quick search and it seems there are quite a few homes in Springfield listed in the $280-315K range. Even though reasonably priced, at today's rates it's going to be tough b/c the incomes of most folks who are living out there probably can't even support it.
