We are moving to Acton/Westford area from NY. We have 2 kids. One of them is a junior in high school. He goes to Catholic school. He is not happy at all with the move. We are struggling for 3 days now to convince him.
From all the reviews I read about both schools, these are great schools but very very tough. It seems there is a caste system there, unless you are A+ student, you are considered worthless and even bullied.
I want to know from someone who lives there and has kids going to these schools...what would it be like going to these schools in the middle of Junior year and not to mention remote/hybrid setup
My teen is a good student( not a A+ though) but has a life outside school. We are really stressed out.
Any help is appreciated
No. I don't know what other towns should I consider. Any suggestions
Littleton has a very good school system and parents and all are quite involved. I'm not a parent, but I lived there for 27 years until 2018 and saw my neighbors' kids and the town move to a very good system, anecdotally without some of the over-the-top reputation of Westford.
Westford and Acton have a very high % of Asians...who tend to drive up a school's academic reputation. Moving at high school age is just hard and I think a kid's success at that point will be more driven by their personality vs any specific school in the metrowest that has a good reputation. If you are turned off by those town's rep, just pick a neighboring one like Carlisle or Bedford both of which have good schools.

Thanks for the response. On Niche.com there are reviews that made me cry. One student had a panic attack and was admitted to the hospital because she didn't get an A+ and was bullied. Another review said that the system is like a prison where people from the same race mingle and you cannot "cross-over" and talk to kids from other races.
What kind of school district is this? Having 9 ratings is nice but what kind of culture are we building in our school systems in the US.
We are not in a good place with this move. Ours is a very conservative family. Real republicans ( not Trump-style republicans though ) I wonder if that will be an issue as well there.
If you lean to the right, then Acton is not the place for you. Westford may be a bit better. Or Essex County towns like Lynnfield or Boxford might be a better cultural fit.

The high min-acre 495 towns will also be quite tolerant towards moderate Republicans, though one's definition of moderate might vary.
People attracted to 2 acre lots tend to "live and let live". Bolton isn't 'purple' anymore, but towns like Berlin and Boylston still are.
