Hello. We have never been to the Cape and are considering either the Sesuit Harbor House in Dennis or The Cove Motel in Orleans. Which town is nicer? Favorite beaches, better places for an overall Cape Cod experience? Thank-you for any opinions.

With kids during the summer, I would definitely choose Dennis over Orleans. You're closer to Yarmouth for minigolf, or Harwich for go-carts. Route 28 is pretty jammed during the summer months, though. Orleans is a nice town if it's just you and your spouse. For the overall Cape experience, Orleans is right at the elbow between the mid Cape Highway and the Lower (or outer) Cape, which is closer to the Cape Cod National Seashore. I prefer the beaches on the outer cape, myself. The dunes are something to see.

If I had to bring kids to the Cape I would choose Dennis also. I prefer not bring kids to the Cape as it is not really kid friendly. Southern Maine is the place to bring kids in New England as there is so much more fun things for them to do.

Dennis is the perfect choice for a family vacation. It's a great central location. Lots to do in the town of Dennis but you are a quick drive to other towns with activities as mentioned by a previous poster. I love Mayflower Beach. Low tide is fabulous. You can walk for 100's of yards in the shallows, splash and look for hermit crabs in tide pools. Sesuit Harbor is great for lobster rolls and to watch the boat traffic. There is so much free offered on Cape in summer. There are marsh walks, youth ranger programs, concerts, festivals and street fairs. Sign up for the Cape Cod Daily Deal. You can buy tickets for attractions and restaurant gift certificates at reduced rates. Neither you nor the kids will be bored Enjoy,

No better beach area for kids than the Nantucket sound.

Its warmer than the bay and open ocean, there are some little waves, and you never have to worry about rip currents. I spent all my summers growing up in Yarmouth.. endless things to do with kids.
