Hello All,
My husband and two very young children (2 and 7 weeks) will be moving back to the Boston area from Orlando. We used to live in the Agassiz neighborhood of Cambridge, which we loved. We were childless and in school then, now my husband will be working in Wilmington, and I will be at home with the kids. I know we won't be able to afford a three bedroom in Cambridge, but what about Arlington? Could we rent a decent, modern-ish house there for less than $2500? Is it a kid friendly place to live? I don't want to be isolated, since I won't know many people. What is Arlington Heights like? Thank you!

Single family homes for rent are fairly rare. You might find something around that price and hit the real-estate lottery. But, most likely you will find good size renovated second floor (two-family) 3-4 bed apartment in that price range. Arlington is brimming with young families--many came from Cambridge for more space and bit cheaper real-estate. Arlington Heights is very trendy and popular neighborhood. It is bit competitive area, so if you find something nice, jump at it.
Brackett Elementary is deemed best elementary (and most desirable) school in Arlington. Be aware that neighborhood is beautiful, but many streets are very steep hill(s) and backyards are not big. You might find yourself driving around bit more (in winter at least). Robbins Farm Playground, across from Brackett Elementary, is probably one of the best playgrounds in the area (amazing vista of Boston included). You will have no problem finding friends and fitting in.
Good luck and hope it helps.

Arlington is like Cambridge west with trees Almost no single family homes to rent in Arlington.....like Kingeorge said. Best bet is a unit in 2 family house. The heights has a Trader Joe's & Starbucks. It's a neat town & you can get to Cambridge in under 25 minutes.

Have you considered Reading? Excellent schools and a charming downtown area with easy access to Wilmington and also major highways to get into the city, Cape Ann, shopping, etc.
