We moved to Cohasset from Boston but now reside in Hingham. Overall, Cohasset is a sleepy little town and everything with the exception or Bia Bistro shuts down early. There are so many nice people who live in Cohasset but we did not really develop the connection with other familes that we were looking for. We found Cohasset to be just too slow for us but no complaints about the beaches!
We made the decision to move to Hingham and have never looked back. The schools in Hingham are superior than Cohasset (most people in Cohasset send their kids to private school and so the public schools there need a major upgrade but people don't want to vote for a property tax increase because they don't send their kids there to begin with), there are a ton of groups and although Hingham is not a small town, we feel like we know everyone. There are a ton of great restaurants and lots of community events (looking forward to the Easter egg hunt at the SouthShore Country Club). We have made so many new friends in Hingham as have our kids. Also, the commute to Boston is a cinch; just hop on the ferry boat and you are downtown in 35 minutes.
Feel free to email me offline if you want more specific info.
Good luck!

HI Dovermom--
We've been in Cohasset for a year now with our two small children. We also started our search in Hingham. Both great towns, you can't go wrong, but definitely check out the South Shore Community Center in Cohasset if you're interested in children's activities. They have an amazing nursery school as well as music, tumbling/gymnastic classes, summer nature camp, etc. for young kids. Good Luck!
