I lived in Alexandria, VA up until 6 months ago and loved it there. What I didn't enjoy was that all my friends kept moving. I am moving back to the East Coast and wondered if Columbia and Ellicott city transient?

Thanks!

No, Columbia and EC are not transient. Everyone I know there grew up and stayed there because it's so nice. I'm in Florida for school and it is VERY transient here, so that's my comparison.

Thank you Smash! I appreciate your response. You gave me the answer I wanted to hear. I don't mind that there is a flow of people, but some social stability is nice too . I am sure you know what I am talking about.

I don't see a high level of transience. I've been in same house in Columbia for 26 years. The street is 33 years old and of 8 original families two are originals. Our neighborhood is seeing some of the older owners, now empty nesters, moving to smaller quarters, but they are being replaced by families with young children.

Yes Columbia is kind of Transient in the sense that alot of people move to the area from other parts of the country. I've met so many people from other parts of the country/world that its not even funny anymore....But its a good thing because people in Columbia are very nice...

My neighborhood in Ellicott City is pretty stable with some move-ins and move-outs but not many. Mostly well-off Korean families coming in more than anything else. I think because EC and Columbia are far enough from DC, the transcience level is quite diminished.

No, columbia, for the most part, is settled. It has a good cross section of young, middle and older residents. There is ample commuting service (regular busses) to Metro, DC. One thing about columbia is it is pedistrian friendly. In addition, thre are side walks everywhere. You do no have to worry about meeting neignbors- they are friendly without getting into your business. There are abundant facilities for exercise and it is a community that is friendly.

Probably want to let people know if you are talking apartment or housing and if you are younger and are looking at meeting friends who are relocating as job opportunities open etc. Housing is stable apartments are something else.
