Given the choice between Edgewood and Joppatown, most would choice Joppatown. Bel Air & Fallston have the best reputation. But anyway, I found no problems with Joppa.

May I just tell you...I have been living here for a month now...there are 2 different Joppa's
Joppatowne is south of I 95 and very bad neighborhood crime. Close to Edgewood.
Joppa is north of I 95 near Bel Air and Fallston...nicer and lower crime...believe me I have been looking for a place to live....would never consider Edgewood, Aberdeen, Abingdon, Joppatowne, BelCamp

Joppa is a better choice if you like convinience. You can be right on 95 and at work in no time, and if you do find something in Joppa depending on the zoning you could be in the Fallston school district.[/quote]

Again, there are 2 Joppa's. Joppatowne, is south of I 95, bad crime due to proximity to Edgewood.
Joppa, north of I 95, close to Bel Air and Forest Hill, and Fallston=better choice if you have the $$$ these areas are expensive

Hi,
There are 2 Joppa's. Joppatowne and Joppa. Two different areas. Joppatowne is south of I 95 near crime ridden Edgewood. Joppa, is near Bel Air, Fallston and Forest Hill all good areas with not as bad crime as Joppatowne. Here is a rule of thumb for the new person to Harford...North of I-95=good, south of I-95=bad
Hope this helps,
Colleen

When you say crime, is it on par with Baltimore City?

Its a rule of thumb, but not true in every case. There are lots of nice, new, sagfe neighborhoods in Abingdown that are south of 95. And I have spoken to several coworkers who live in Joppatown and say its great. They love it. I've asked specifically about crime, and they said they don't know of much. One person lived in Joppatown (Rumsey Island), but has moved to Cecil county. When I pressed him for why, he said it was b/c they ran out of room in their townhome, but they were originally wanting to stay in Joppatown.

FWIW, we have been looking at Joppatown and Abingdon. No kids, so schools aren't a huge concern. When I read the newspaper, I see the most crime in Edgewood and Aberdeen.

Maybe so, rubytue, but I disagree. South of 95 is bad. There is a superfund site at aberdeen proving ground by the good ole govt. polluting the water with ground runoff from the army and their mustard gas. It is a superfund site. Bad news. Cecil, by the way has 4 superfunds. My house search is now restricted to [BJoppa north of 95, fallston, belair north, jarretsville and forest hill.[/b] Why do you think aberdeen, edgewood, joppatowne, box hill, belcamp, etc are so affordable??? two words....CRIME and SUPERFUND!!!

Colleen

We can disagree I'm just giving other opinions.

I guess I'll just be one of the bad people living down here on the water, enjoying my boat every evening.

Thumbs up Harford County

Hi everyone,

As you can tell, I am "Soon to be South", but currently live in Abingdon (Harford Co). I really like it here. We are going South because the cost of living is much better and the job I am looking at is easier to obtain.

These are great areas to look into: (low crime, great schools)
Bel Air
Fallston
Forest Hill
Abingdon (most affordable in this group)
Jarretsville

Stay away from:
Edgewood
Parts of Joppatowne
Aberdeen

Joppa is tricky.. Some parts are very nice and others are not so nice. Also check into the High Schools. Many schools in Harford Co are great. Edgewood High and Aberdeen High are the only ones that I would not want my own children attending.
