Hello,

My husband and I are planning a 2 night getaway while my daughter goes to Senior week. She is going to NJ, so we are looking to stay in either Cecil or Kent County in MD or New Castle or northern Kent County of DE. We would like to go crabbing and eat at an all you can eat crab restaurant. Other activities nearby are definitely a plus. Kayaking, being near water, museums, lighthouses, etc.... Any suggestions? We will be camping, so somewhere with a nice campground is a plus. Thank you!

St Michaels and Tilghman Island are my favorite places. St Michaels has a museum with a retired lighthouse, and it has a couple of crab houses. IDK about nice campgrounds, but there are some reasonably priced B&B's. There is also a rustic, family-run hotel, Harrison House, on Tilghman Island, right on the water.

I also posted this on your thread on the Delaware forum but figured I'd post it here as well"

Elk Neck State Park in North East, MD...you're on the water, you can hike to the lighthouse and you can go to Captain Chris' for crabs. It is outdoor seating and not glamorous in any way but its AYCE for $25/person. It is on your way to/from the state park. If you'll have a boat with you there is a boat ramp that will stick you right out in the bay. Have fun!

Are there any nice beaches in NE MD? Not necessarily for laying out on...just for walking and crabbing?

We've been checking these suggestions out and it seems like a winner! Quick question...are the bugs horrendous here? We stayed at Fort Whalen campground a few years ago and we encountered the worst bug situation we've ever seen (and we've been camping for a long time). We couldn't sit outside at all. I know some friends stayed at Assateague Island a few times and said they had the same problem. Is it something with the area, or was it just a fluke?

FORT WHALEY OMG. That place is something else.

Anyways, the bugs all over Maryland are bad. Worse the closer you are to the Bay.

It's really not crab season until it gets hot, not sure when your trip is scheduled.

Something about Crabs, and romance just doesn't sound right.

Lol! No, not so much. While on vacation several times with our daughter, we've thought that it would be fun to get the all you can eat crab legs and sit for a few hours while eating them and having a few drinks. Not something we could do with my daughter since she hates crabs and would be bored to tears after 30 minutes!
