I want to surprise my husband for his birthday with a weekend
getaway. Any ideas??? I am open to romantic spots close by
or far away.

Charleston, SC is a great destination only 3 or so hours away.

I think renting a cozy log cabin in the mountains is a great get-away.

asheville is beautiful and you can go see the Biltmore afterward. The downtown area is full of fun, romantic restaurants and strolling opportunities. Savannah is also pretty (and I think Charleston is a great spot too - just across the causeway from each other, more or less).

Have a great weekend!

Stay at the Carolina Inn. Have authentic Shrimp and Grits for dinner at Crooks Corner. Enjoy the quiet beauty of the Inn. It is very relaxing.

Sounds like a great idea. You save money on travel so you can splurge on a fancy hotel and dinner. What's not to like?

We did the Carolina Inn for an anniversary and it was great (tho' we ate at Lantern ).

Asheville and Charleston are both great suggestions.

There are lots of great B&Bs in Wilmington, so it is good for a romantic weekend. We stayed at The Verandas. home

There's always Fearrington House: North Carolina Bed and Breakfast – Fearrington Inn: Chapel Hill, NC

I've never stayed this close to town, but I've heard great things about the Arrowhead Inn in Durham: Arrowhead Inn, Bed and Breakfast, Durham, North Carolina, NC

And Celebrity Dairy is a nice rustic location! @The Inn at Celebrity Dairy - (919) 742-5176 -Chatham County, North Carolina

Thanks for so many fast responses.
The B & B ideas at the coast or Asheville sound great.
We have been meaning to visit Biltmore also so
we could stay in a B & B near there.
