I've got something of an odd question.

Back in summer camp in the late 1980s, I had a camp counselor from Mount Airy who claimed he was an extra in a movie that was filmed in Mount Airy, presumably in the mid to late 1980s.

Does anyone know what this movie might be? I've looked and looked but so far haven't found an answer.

I know this is an old question, but since no one answered...

I'd be curious too! The Mt. Airy Main Street Association: Main Street Association | The Town of Mount Airy Maryland or Arts Alliance: Arts Alliance | The Town of Mount Airy Maryland might also know.

Are you sure about those dates and the town?

John Waters' "Crybaby" was made in 1990 and part of it was shot in one of those towns in that area. If not Mt. Airy, it might have been Damascus or Sykesville.

I'm not saying that "Crybaby" is the movie you're thinking of, but it's the only one that comes to my mind that was shot in the approximate time and location mentioned.

The west-side filming locations for Crybaby were Catonsville, Ellicott City, and Sykesville.

I went to that camp in the summer of 1989......although I guess it's possible that filming for Crybaby took place in 1989?

Yes, filming took place in 1989. The film was released in 1990. This could be the film the OP is thinking of.

If you are thinking of Mount Airy Lodge, in the Pocono Mountains, the film was called Video Wars from 1983.

Here is a link to a preview of it on YouTube:

And a link to the new upcoming book entitled "Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge" which has all kinds of facts and tidbits:

Hope that helps!
