I've heard that the state is doing away with collecting cash tolls at the Thomas Hatem bridge on route 40 crossing the Susquehanna River. How do the state collect tolls from us non-easy pass drivers?

You'll just be forced to get the EZ Pass, blow through the toll plaza (and get a follow up pay the fine letter a couple weeks later), go around, or end all business and dealings you have on the other side of the river.

It's not about you but all about paying for the Inter-County Connector.

Welcome to Maryland, what's in YOUR wallet?

I'm guessing it's similar to the system they set up for the Inter County Connector. On the ICC if you do not have an EZ Pass they scan your tag, then send you a bill. The "fine" is like $3 which pays for the processing, which if you ask me is not that unreasonable.

Bottom line if you think you will use the bridge get an EZ Pass. if you don't feel like doing that just pay the bill. By the way I'm told if you get an EZ pass in Delaware you don't have to pay the yearly fee. I rarely use mine but did that to avoid additional expenses.

Thanks, Dave. I rarely use a toll facility and I'm not about to get an EZ Pass.

Watch it on this one. They're getting ready to, if they haven't already, raise the fine for blowing through EZ Pass.

The Hatem Bridge won't have a "fine" associated with it though. They'll just charge $12 for non-EZPass users compared to $8 for EZPass users.
