The proposals include increasing tolls for passenger cars on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from $2.50 to $5 starting Oct. 1, and to $8 beginning in July 2013. One-way tolls for the Harbor Tunnel, Fort McHenry Tunnel and the Key Bridge would go from $2 to $3.

that's a pretty steep increase.

I don't think it will discourage vacationers. It will be very tough on people that commute across the bridge to work each day.

right. i cross it maybe 3 times a year, but some folks have to use it nearly every day.

So drivers will have to pay $10 roundtrip heading east beginning Oct 1. Is this what happens when the Democrats pillage the transportation fund to balance the state budget?

$10? What are you talking about? It's going up to $5 (round-trip), then $8 in 2013.

The toll hasn't gone up in like 25 years. Wipe the froth away from your mouth. Sometimes you have to pay for things. Sorry it's one fewer trip to Five Guys for you.

There's no need to be an asswipe. I thought r/t was currently $5, like the toll in no MD.

Commuters have never paid the full toll and will still get a significant discount though.

Commuter tolls are going from $1 to $2.80, so yes tougher, but still less than $60 a month (up from ~$20 now).

As for the increase, I wouldn't mind paying it IF there were significant improvements to the bridge, toll plaza (all-electronic tolling would be a HUGE improvement), or even other parts of US 50/301.

I don't like the idea of the money going to projects that will have absolutely no use to Bay Bridge users.

I remember paying each way when I went to college in Salisbury...20 years ago. The toll hasn't gone up much at all, so I don't have an issue paying more. Granted, I don't drive it every day. I'm sure they'll have monthly passes available to those who do. If you don't want to pay that amount, drive up and around the Bay. People did it before the bridge was built!
